Rajasthan is strengthening its electric vehicle charging infrastructure as the state looks to support growing EV adoption and improve connectivity between major cities, tourist destinations and industrial hubs.
As of December 2025, Rajasthan had 1,515 public EV charging stations, accounting for around 5% of India’s total 29,151 public charging stations. Karnataka leads the country with 6,096 stations, followed by Maharashtra with 4,166.
A major focus for Rajasthan is the development of intercity EV charging corridors, particularly along highways connecting Jaipur with important urban centres, tourist destinations and industrial locations. Reliable highway charging infrastructure is expected to play an important role in enabling longer-distance electric vehicle travel across the state.
The Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation has also floated tenders for around 350 additional EV charging stations across six cities and key highway routes. The expansion is expected to improve charging accessibility and strengthen Rajasthan’s overall EV ecosystem.
However, commercial viability remains a significant challenge for public charging operators. Industry estimates indicate that public EV charging stations typically operate at only 1–5% utilisation, resulting in longer investment payback periods.
The challenge is particularly relevant in Rajasthan due to the long distances between major cities. This makes the development of highway charging infrastructure important even in locations where current EV demand may not yet make charging stations commercially attractive.
EV adoption also varies significantly across vehicle categories. According to Rubix Data Sciences, electric three-wheelers lead with 60.77% penetration, while electric two-wheelers have 8.88% penetration and electric four-wheelers stand at 5.70%.
The expansion of public and highway charging infrastructure could help address range concerns, encourage intercity EV travel and support the broader transition towards electric mobility in Rajasthan.
