Andhra Pradesh to Host India’s First 6 GW Solar Ingot–Wafer Manufacturing Plant

Andhra Pradesh is set to become India’s premier solar manufacturing hub with the development of the country’s first 6 GW solar ingot–wafer production facility in Anakapalli district. The ₹3,990 crore greenfield project, spearheaded by ReNew Photovoltaics, aims to strengthen India’s domestic solar supply chain, reduce dependency on Chinese imports, and support the nation’s ambitious 300 GW solar capacity target by 2030.

The plant, approved by the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board and awaiting Cabinet clearance, will span 130–140 acres. Leveraging the Centre’s PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme, the project demonstrates India’s commitment to integrated solar manufacturing.

Key details include:

  • Capacity: 6 GW solar ingot–wafer
  • Investment: ₹3,990 crore
  • Construction completion: March 2026
  • Commercial production start: January 2028
  • Power requirement: 95 MW of RTC power
  • Water requirement: 10 MLD
  • Employment generation: 1,200 jobs

This facility positions Andhra Pradesh as a strategic hub for solar manufacturing, complementing the state’s rising IT and industrial ecosystem. With no comparable plant in India, it marks a milestone in the country’s clean energy journey, contributing to both energy self-reliance and sustainable industrial growth.

The project is expected to catalyze regional economic growth, strengthen the renewable energy value chain, and showcase India’s ability to manufacture advanced solar components domestically. By producing ingots and wafers locally, India will enhance its technological self-reliance, reduce import dependency, and accelerate progress toward net-zero emission goals.
