AP Chief Secretary Pushes Faster Rooftop Solar Rollout for SC/ST Households

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has directed officials to expedite rooftop solar installations for SC/ST households, emphasizing strict accountability for any intentional delays in key power sector initiatives.

During a high-level review meeting in Vijayawada, Vijayanand instructed APCPDCL and district authorities to ensure time-bound execution of:

  • Rooftop solar projects
  • Feeder-level solarisation
  • RDSS (Revenue & Distribution System Strengthening) works
  • Smart metering installations
  • EV charging infrastructure

He stressed closer monitoring at circle and division levels, speedy land finalisation for solar projects, prompt execution of power purchase agreements, and enhanced system reliability and consumer services across the CRDA, Guntur, Krishna, and NTR circles.

Key progress under ongoing initiatives includes:

  • PM Surya Ghar (consumer-led model): Over 1 lakh applications received; around 16,000 rooftop systems installed, adding 57 MW of solar capacity.
  • SC/ST-focused ULA model: Nearly 1.9 lakh beneficiaries identified, with roof surveys and consents largely completed.
  • PM-KUSUM Component-C projects: Exceeding 190 MW capacity.
  • RDSS loss-reduction works: Targeted for completion by March 2026.
  • EV charging infrastructure: Planned at 90+ locations, with faster approvals and execution urged.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that these initiatives are critical for energy access, loss reduction, and the adoption of clean energy, especially for vulnerable communities.
