The Government of India has dedicated a 200 MW Solar Module Manufacturing Line of Central Electronics Limited (CEL) to the nation, marking a significant milestone in the country’s clean energy manufacturing journey.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh said that renewable energy will play a central role in India’s economic growth and in achieving the national target of net-zero emissions by 2070.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Singh emphasized that the new facility will strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities and reinforce India’s commitment to non-fossil fuel energy sources, including solar, wind, nuclear, and ocean-based systems.
He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is accelerating its clean energy transition while promoting self-reliance in advanced technologies.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and Central Electronics Limited.
Recalling CEL’s legacy, Dr. Singh highlighted that India’s first solar cell and solar plant were developed by the organization in the late 1970s.
The commissioning of the new manufacturing line underscores CEL’s transformation into a profitable Mini Ratna enterprise and reflects growing confidence in India’s domestic renewable energy manufacturing sector.
