National Mission Drives Clean Energy Revolution with Strong Industry Incentives
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced that India aims to become a global hub for green hydrogen production, usage, and export under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Speaking at the International Green Hydrogen Conference, Joshi said that green hydrogen is now an economic necessity as nations move toward carbon neutrality.
India’s strategy involves powering its entire hydrogen production through renewable energy sources, leveraging its low-cost solar, wind, and hydro capacity. The initiative is designed to position India as a global leader in clean fuel technology while enhancing energy security and industrial competitiveness.
So far, the government has awarded incentives for:
3,000 MW per year of electrolyser manufacturing, and
8.62 lakh metric tonnes per year of green hydrogen production.
India also achieved the world’s lowest green ammonia price at ₹149.75/kg for 7.24 lakh metric tonnes per annum.
In addition, investments of ₹132 crore have been allocated for pilot projects in green steel, while ₹208 crore supports 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and nine refuelling stations across the country. These steps reinforce India’s commitment to sustainable development and industrial innovation.
Minister Joshi emphasized that India’s strong renewable base, combined with its expanding hydrogen ecosystem, will enable it to lead the global green energy transition and create high-value jobs in manufacturing and logistics.
