KPI Green Plans $1 Billion Renewable InvIT to Expand Clean Energy Portfolio

KPI Green Energy is planning to launch a renewable energy-backed infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) to raise up to $1 billion as part of its long-term expansion strategy in India’s rapidly growing clean energy sector.

According to Faruk Patel, the proposed InvIT is expected to mobilise between ₹80 billion and ₹100 billion and may be launched around the end of FY2027–28.

The InvIT is expected to pool between 1.5 GW and 2 GW of operational renewable energy assets, including solar, wind, and hybrid power projects. Several of these projects are backed by long-term power purchase agreements with government-linked utilities such as Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam and SJVN.

The move reflects a broader trend among renewable energy developers to monetise operational assets, improve balance sheet flexibility, and attract long-term institutional investors through yield-generating infrastructure platforms.

Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) have emerged as an increasingly popular financing mechanism in India’s infrastructure and renewable energy sectors, enabling developers to recycle capital while offering investors access to stable, income-generating assets.

KPI Green had previously strengthened its financing profile by raising ₹6.7 billion through a green bond transaction backed by GuarantCo, part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group.

The company’s planned InvIT comes at a time when investor interest in sustainable and renewable infrastructure assets continues to rise globally, supported by India’s ambitious energy transition and decarbonisation targets.

According to the Bharat InvITs Association, India currently has 28 registered InvITs managing infrastructure assets worth more than ₹7 trillion across sectors including energy, transport, transmission, and logistics.

Industry analysts believe renewable energy InvITs could play a major role in financing India’s future clean energy expansion by improving capital efficiency and broadening participation from domestic and international investors.

With increasing demand for operational renewable assets offering predictable long-term cash flows, KPI Green’s proposed InvIT is expected to further deepen investor participation in India’s clean energy infrastructure ecosystem.
