The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the inclusion of wind turbines and components under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
The SOP establishes two distinct registries — ALMM-Wind, for certified turbine models, and ALMM-WTC, for approved manufacturers of key components such as blades, towers, generators, gearboxes, and bearings. This framework aims to ensure higher standards of performance, reliability, and cybersecurity across India’s wind energy supply chain.
Manufacturers seeking ALMM listing must provide type certification, ISO documentation, and undergo physical factory inspections to validate quality compliance. To encourage innovation, newly developed turbine models can initially source components outside the ALMM-WTC for up to 800 MW capacity within two years.
Additionally, the SOP mandates domestic data control centres to secure operational data and prevent cyber vulnerabilities. By integrating certified turbines with verified suppliers, MNRE’s initiative enhances transparency, quality assurance, and resilience in India’s rapidly growing wind energy ecosystem.
