Odisha Deputy CM Urges Citizens to Make Energy Conservation a Daily Practice

On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister KV Singh Deo urged citizens to make energy conservation an integral part of their daily lives, emphasising that efficiency must move beyond policy discussions and translate into individual action.

Addressing a state-level event, Singh Deo said simple behavioural changes—such as switching off unused electrical appliances, ensuring energy-efficient usage, and adopting renewable energy solutions—should become a habit as well as a collective national responsibility. He stressed that sustained conservation efforts at the household level can significantly contribute to reducing overall power demand and environmental impact.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the importance of proper earthing in households, noting that it plays a critical role in improving electrical safety, reducing power losses, and enhancing system efficiency. He also emphasised the need for the widespread adoption of smart meters, which enable accurate energy monitoring, improve billing transparency, and help utilities curb technical and commercial losses.

Reaffirming the Odisha government’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, Singh Deo stated that the state’s initiatives are closely aligned with national missions on climate resilience, sustainable development, and clean energy transition.

As part of the National Energy Conservation Day observance, the Deputy CM also inaugurated an exhibition showcasing energy-efficient appliances, electric vehicles, and solar panels. Awards were presented to industries and organisations for their exemplary contributions towards energy conservation and efficiency.

Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary (Energy) Vishal Kumar Dev remarked that energy conservation remains the cheapest and cleanest source of power, underscoring its importance in meeting future energy needs. He added that Odisha’s upcoming policies on pump storage projects and floating solar power are expected to further accelerate the state’s renewable energy growth and strengthen long-term energy security.
