Delhi has witnessed a significant rise in rooftop solar adoption, driven by government subsidies, awareness initiatives and simplified digital processes, according to Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL).
The utility has crossed 10,000 rooftop solar installations across North and North-West Delhi under its Project Suryansh initiative. As of April 2026, a total of 10,466 rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 160.3 MWp have been energised.
Tata Power-DDL stated that the strong growth aligns with the objectives of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to encourage residential solar adoption across the country. Residential consumers accounted for the majority of installations, with 8,451 households adopting rooftop solar systems to reduce electricity expenses and export surplus power to the grid.
The momentum accelerated during FY26, when 5,378 new rooftop solar installations were completed, adding 55.75 MWp capacity — the highest annual rooftop solar addition recorded in Delhi so far.
The company highlighted that combined Central and State government subsidies of up to ₹1.08 lakh have significantly reduced upfront installation costs, enabling consumers to recover investments within two to three years.
Apart from residential users, commercial establishments, Cooperative Group Housing Societies (CGHS) and community outreach programmes also contributed to the growing adoption of rooftop solar solutions in the capital.
Tata Power-DDL added that continued awareness campaigns, digital application processes and financial incentives are helping accelerate the transition toward clean and sustainable energy adoption in Delhi.
