University of New South Wales has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd to strengthen collaboration in clean and renewable energy, with a strong focus on innovation and startups.
The agreement, formalised on April 2 in Karnataka, aims to establish a renewable energy startup incubator in the state. This initiative will enable cross-border collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders in India and Australia, fostering innovation and accelerating the growth of green startups.
Under this partnership, startups will gain access to advanced research infrastructure, innovation ecosystems, and market opportunities in both countries. The programme will also include capacity-building initiatives supported through UNSW Founders, helping entrepreneurs scale their clean energy solutions effectively.
The collaboration is being facilitated by the Australian India Business Council and Investment NSW. Key academic and innovation partners include NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Science, both of which will contribute to research, incubation, and mentorship support.
Karnataka Energy Minister K J George stated that this partnership will significantly strengthen the state’s innovation ecosystem and position Karnataka as a global hub for clean energy innovation. The initiative also aligns with the upcoming launch of UNSW’s Bengaluru campus in 2026, further deepening academic and industry ties between India and Australia.
Overall, the partnership marks a major step toward accelerating renewable energy innovation and nurturing the next generation of green startups through international collaboration.
