Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in partnership with Hitachi Energy, has signed an Ultra-Mega Framework Cooperation Agreement with Dutch transmission system operator TenneT for its 2 GW offshore wind programme. The framework is valued at more than ₹15,000 crore.

The agreement covers up to six High Voltage Direct Current transmission projects designed to connect large-scale offshore wind farms in the North Sea with onshore electricity grids across Europe.

Under the framework, the consortium will continue its work on the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 projects in the Netherlands while also executing the Nederwiek 3 and LanWin 5 projects in Germany. Together, these four projects will deliver 8 GW of electricity transmission capacity operating at 525 kV.

L&T will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of offshore converter platforms. Hitachi Energy will provide its advanced HVDC Light technology for efficient and reliable power transmission.

The partnership will support Europe’s offshore renewable energy expansion and strengthen the region’s transition towards a cleaner, more reliable and sustainable energy system.
