Mecpower Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government to establish a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System assembly facility in Karjan.

The proposed project involves an investment of ₹160 crore and will manufacture battery energy storage systems for utility-scale, commercial and industrial applications.

The facility will help meet India’s growing demand for energy storage as the country rapidly expands its solar, wind and other renewable energy capacities. Battery storage systems enable surplus renewable electricity to be stored and supplied when required, improving grid reliability, stability and energy availability.

Mecpower Solutions Managing Director Setul Shah said the investment demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its clean energy portfolio and strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.

The project aligns with Gujarat’s strategy to attract investments in renewable energy and advanced clean technology manufacturing. It is also expected to support industrial development and employment opportunities in the state.

By increasing domestic BESS assembly capacity, the Karjan facility will contribute to India’s transition towards a more resilient, sustainable and self-reliant energy ecosystem.
