Tripura has achieved 15.3 MW of installed rooftop solar capacity under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, marking a major milestone in the state’s transition towards decentralised and sustainable energy generation.

As of July 27, 2026, the scheme had received 17,330 registrations. A total of 7,846 applications were submitted for a proposed rooftop solar capacity of 24,733 kWp.

Solar systems have already been installed across 4,460 households, allowing consumers to generate clean electricity for their own use and export surplus power to the grid through net metering.

The scheme has also delivered substantial financial support to participating households. Around 3,853 consumers have received subsidies worth more than ₹32.52 crore.

During the April–June 2026 quarter, 1,679 households reduced their electricity bills to zero. These consumers also became eligible to collectively earn approximately ₹15.79 lakh by supplying surplus solar electricity to the grid.

The growing adoption of rooftop solar is helping Tripura reduce household electricity expenses, create additional income opportunities and strengthen energy self-reliance.

The initiative is also supporting the state’s broader shift towards affordable, clean and sustainable power generation.
